Wouldnt it make sense for the retail versions to also register onto the DCS site as well. I realise its my fault for loosing the thing (or more likely the lady of the house, as the manual was probably left out for reference and turned into recycling) but it does seem to be avoidable, if I buy other products on REtail that eg go to steam, it registers them to steam forever for me.
